Invasive Species Testing

The detection and quantification of eDNA via PCR methods is a powerful tool for early detection of invasive species. It involves the collection and analysis of DNA fragments shed by the target organism into its surrounding environment. In the case of invasive species, eDNA analysis can detect the presence of the species in a particular area before they become established or cause significant harm to the ecosystem.

This non-invasive approach enables the detection of invasive species in areas that are difficult to access or where traditional survey methods are not feasible. eDNA can also provide valuable information on the distribution, abundance, and potential pathways of invasive species, which can inform management and control strategies. With the ability to detect invasive species at an early stage, eDNA testing has the potential to play a crucial role in preventing their spread and minimizing the damage they can cause to native ecosystems.
