Sustainability at AP Genomic Labs Inc.

Our lab was founded as an environmental laboratory with the mission to do our part in protecting and restoring a healthy environment. But we don’t want to stop there, considering our impact on this planet and achieving sustainable operations is our primary goal, every day.

Recycling

We currently recycle paper, cardboard, aluminum cans, glass, electric waste, batteries, and as much of the different plastic waste as possible.

Resource Consciousness

What never becomes waste does not have to be recycled. We are very aware that molecular biology analytics involve a lot of disposable plastics. While we do our best in feeding these plastics back into the circular economy, we try to reduce plastic waste elsewhere as much as we can. As example, we don’t use disposable plates, cups or silverware for lunch or company gatherings; we will re-use shipping containers, packing material and Styrofoam boxes as much and as long as we can; and for every item we purchase we check if there is a “greener,” more sustainable alternative.

Paperless

We are aiming at running our operations paperless as much as possible. For our clients that also means that paperless (i.e. electronic lab reports) is the default option. None of our instruments create printouts, all our runs create electronic files only. Even our fax is set up to only produce electronic files. Invoices are sent via email and we offer credit card and ACH payment at no added costs for our clients to avoid paper check mailing and further reduce our CO₂ impact.

Continuous Improvement

We will never stop considering our environmental impact and trying to be better. Continuous improvement is our driver in all aspects. If you have ideas please let us know.
